LUCENT - RIPPER EP OUT NOW

Out today is a brand new EP from Liverpool UK based producer Lucent! This one came to our attention via Jamie from Tomb Crew, who has been ruffing up the dance and the airwaves with “Ripper” for some months now. After we couldn’t get that one out of our DJ box, we called up young Lucent in cold, rainy Liverpool and asked what else he had sitting over there on his hard drives. The resulting EP contains four fun, fresh, and lively tracks that make perfect DJ tools—full of catchy, loopy hooks and big bad basslines. We hadn’t been able to find anything like these tracks for our DJ sets in some time; clever riddims that mix with everything, full of peak-time flavor and falling somewhere in between fidget, electro-house, and funky while not being any one genre at all.

STREAM: DAMN KIDS - WORTHLESS EP

Seven months ago we debuted the mysterious tribal bass textures of Toronto's Damn Kids’ Govudoh EP. Now the young Canadian is back for another round of artful percussion and addictive reverb. “Worthless” is a soulful, garage-inspired affair with aquatic melodies topped by beautiful vocals from Jahmal Tonge (of The Carps and MSTRKRFT fame). Not to say we’re forgoing the pump factor: the meat of the track is popping subs, cut-up vocal stabs and claps. The original “Worthless” takes out the full vocal and rocks solo in the mid-130s zone, while “Tyledon” goes deep and gangster with a sidewinding bassline, crispy rims and hats and a syrup-slow sample perfect for your forward-thinking bass set.

Worthless EP will be out on April 23, 2013
