MIKIX THE CAT

Veiled by whatever mystique or not, Mikix The Cat who currently divides his time between Paris and Berlin moves forward with the unpredictability and hard edged focus of a cheetah on the prowl. Taking his inspiration from ‘anywhere I can find it’, Mikix The Cat has a clear cut objective: ‘my goal is to make music that comes from the soul. When a new track starts to take shape I have no idea how it is going to sound in the end. I don’t care much for classifications and boxes, I don’t care if people call my musical style underground or mainstream. There only exists good music and bad music, that’s all.’

Growing up, Mikix The Cat was drawn into the orbit of his hip hop-loving brother, picked up an influence or two from the electronic dance music blaring out his sister’s stereo and was musically nurtured by his mother with all the major classical and African sounds. ‘I’m taking my musical cues from everywhere. I have tons of respect for jazz musicians and two of my foremost heroes are Quincy Jones and Jay Dilla, and before I chose to devote all my energy in production I was a breakdancing B-boy.’

This naughty cat only has one purpose: Drive you crazy on the dance floor!
